When you don’t have a large kitchen, it can be easy to think that you just have to forgo many of the top design trends for this part of the home.

However, there are some design choices you can make to ensure your kitchen has all the functionality you need, while still looking stylish. The experts at Ideal Home recently offered some top tips on kitchen designs for smaller spaces, so if you’re planning a new kitchen installation in Dorset in the new year, take a look at their suggestions.

At the top of the list is thinking about how you store items in your kitchen. The publication recommends using containers, such as baskets, to group items like condiments, spices or other packets together on shelves and make them look tidier as well as making better use of the space.

You should also look at whether there’s anywhere else in your home where you could plumb your washing machine in. Having it fitted into the cupboard under the stairs, for instance, could free up valuable space in a small kitchen.

When you’re redesigning your kitchen, you should look for wasted space. Think about how you can utilise window sills, unused corners or spaces between shelves, for instance. Utensil racks, hooks on the sides of cupboards or extra shelving in corners could all prove useful.

Alternatively, you could install floor-to-ceiling cabinets to make sure you’re not wasting any of the vertical space in your kitchen.

The Prague Post recently highlighted some of the new trends coming through where kitchen cabinets are concerned, noting that bright colours and under cabinet lighting are two of the trends to watch next year.
